Planning History

As the proposal sought to demolish a building within a conservation area, it was felt that the heritage officer should be engaged to ensure that nothing of merit was being removed. Following a number of conver- sations with the heritage officer, it was confirmed that the demolition of the existing structure would be acceptable.

The Design Process

The form of the building emerged through; a careful urban analysis of the very mixed local area, which comprises four to five storey buildings alongside two storey suburban houses and tower blocks, together with
a consideration of natural light and views across to the City of London. Brady Mallalieu Architects The new buildings are arranged in two parts: a four to five storey building facing Underwood Road and a row of three courtyard houses to the rear.
