The proposals included a number of important landscape interventions to improve external spaces on the estate and to improve pedestrian routes and links. A new east west pedestrian route through the estate has been created linking the central residential area with York Way which is the location of bus routes, shops and other services. This route terminates at York Way with a dramatic series of steps with planting on both sides. Two existing but under-used green spaces at St Thomas Place and Allensbury Place have been significantly reconfigured and enhanced with new planting, remodelled ground levels and retaining walls and new spaces for children’s play. Other improvements include a planted zone along the southern boundary of the estate which minimises the impact of the railway, increases the ecological value of the site and incorporates new and existing community gardens.

Planning History

This is the first significant planning application on the site since the development of the estate. A full planning application was submitted in October 2012 and consent was achieved in March 2013.
