The Design Process

Community is one of the key considerations for Citu when planning a
development. Citu has worked with the local authority to ensure the
development is in keeping with the long-term plan for Kelham Island,
which has been identifi ed as a key area for regeneration. Kelham Island
has its own character and charm and it is Citu’s goal to strengthen help
the neighbourhood to become even more vibrant.
Citu regularly attends local community group meetings to discuss the
long-term vision for Kelham Island as well as ongoing issues. It is keen
to promote the wider neighbourhood and has produced a guide to
Kelham Island, which highlights the best shops, restaurants, bars, cafes,
attractions and activities in the area. It also produces regular video
profi les on small businesses in the area.
Citu works with community groups to allow them to use some of the
space at Little Kelham. The existing buildings make for great exhibition
and meeting space and the areas have already been used by the
community for art displays, pop-up suppers, conferences and meetings.
Citu is handing control of communal gardens to residents, allowing them
to decide how to plant the green spaces which surround their homes.
