Having been competitively selected through interview by a resident
panel we subsequently developed designs, the resident’s vote was
unanimous. The residents group continued to work with us in shaping
the plans and commenting on layouts.
Presentations of materials and designs for the building and amenity
spaces were welcomed. Ideas emerged through consultation such as
preferences for internal layouts or landscape treatment with practical
inputs on the design of the outdoor spaces
We managed a visit with the group to a similar HAPPI housing project
which was welcomed, allowing the residents to be able to see first hand
the HAPPI housing principals that we designed to. Having developed
the design with the specific residents, we then engaged in wider
consultation with the neighbours of the new building.
A public exhibition of the designs and models was held in advance of the
planning application gaining support and overcoming neighbours fears
of negative impacts on their properties. We have continued to meet the
resident group post planning to run through detailed specifications of
fixtures and fittings.
In addition to working with residents we met regularly with the Futures
Steering Group which culminated in a successful public vote in favour of
the proposals.
