Planning History

New Islington (formerly the Cardroom Estate) was identified as one of English Partnership’s (now the HCA) ‘Millennium Communities’
to be delivered as a public/private partnership. As lead developer, Urban Splash created the hoUSe project alongside architects shedkm,
developing a blueprint of a contemporary home with great space standards; high ceilings, and big windows. Prior to creating hoUSe, Urban Splash spent many years working with partners to lay the foundations for a community at New Islington.

The Design Process

Ultimately, it demonstrates the consciousness of Urban Splash in addressing housing issues in the UK by developing a modular and affordable concept. This was reinforced when in summer 2015, the company invited the UK housing minister Brandon Lewis MP to view the first homes, his conclusion was: “Manchester has a rich history of innovation, so it’s great to be here and see that spirit is alive and well with Urban Splash’s new modular housing concept. This Government has got Britain building, encouraging a new generation of house builders to pursue their ideas and come up with new and exciting ways to build homes. I want to see other new entrants follow Urban Splash’s lead and break into the market. That way we can ensure a thriving industry that delivers the high-quality homes that hard-working people rightly deserve.”
