Planning History

Planning consent - May 2013. Planning permission was given by Mendip District Council in June 2010. The planning application was welcomed by local residents and recommended for approval by both the Parish Council and the Mendip District Council. It was also praised by all the Planning Committee members for its design and obtained a unanimous approval at Committee.

The Design Process

A 2 year-long consultation took place with the village residents with 2 postal surveys to the whole village and a comment book in the local pub. The parish council formed a sub-committee to deal specifically with the application which was chaired by Linda Oliver (now a District Councillor). These efforts lead to only 7 representation letters being submitted of which 5 were simply letters of comment, almost unheard of for a scheme of this size. The parish's Traffic Action Group were concerned about the new development so were consulted and addtional traffic calming was implemented above the requirements set out in the planning consent.
