One of the major successes of this project is the open space at the centre of the plan, Millennium Green. The site is the former Robin Hood Gardens, which was two cranked linear residential blocks enclosing a large mounded open space at the centre. The 2012 masterplan proposed reducing this space considerably to make way for the then-proposed new blocks. We suggested a different way, one which allowed for the retention of the entire Millennium Green, retaining this much cherished public open space for future residents.
This project evolved out of a commission to review the 2012 masterplan for Blackwall Reach. We undertook a wholescale review of the masterplan, making numerous recommendations, many of which have been undertaken by Swan. We then worked up plans for Phase 2, requiring a s.96A revision to the consented masterplan parameters, and submitted a Reserved Matters application in June 2016, consented September of that year. The project is currently on site.
