The Design Process

The 0.097 ha application site is located in the London Borough of Merton at 225-231 Streatham Road - A216.The site is currently occupied by a parade of single storey shops (225-231 Streatham Road) and a single storey building (1 The Bungalows). The remainder of the site is made up of a concrete hardstanding back yard with storage containers. The main arterial route of Streatham Road (A216) forms the western boundary of the site and The Bungalows – a residential cul-de-sac, forms the northern boundary. Immediately adjacent to the east of the site is a residential bungalow with a railway embankment abutting the site to the south, which is a designated ‘green corridor’ and ‘site of importance for nature conservation’. Within the vicinity of the site, Streatham Road itself is characterised typically by two and three storey residential properties and some local retail units. Overall, the wider area around the site can be characterised as residential peppered with some retail uses.
