At the heart of the site lies a communal pocket park and children’s play area contained within a walled enclosure of gabion cages loosely filled with chalk field flint, reminiscent of the Pinfolds or Pens of historic villages and agricultural settlements. The main area of this communal amenity space is surrounded by ornamental planting to soften its edges. Large trees planted within the park complement the landscape setting, helping to break up the building mass and provide shade comfort to the communal areas and streetscape. Sculptural planting beds filled with flowering species typical of Kent cottage gardens, reference the surrounding rolling valley landform. A communal nature park and walk can be accessed directly from the development to the north, incorporating ecological enhancements which will provide residents an opportunity to interact with nature. This consists of wetland meadow planting, native trees, shrubs and marginal planting around the pond edges opportunities for habitat creation.
