The key aim stemming from preapplication consultation was to ensure high-quality outdoor amenity space was provided within the development often to include safe playspaces for children, creating a tranquil environment for residents, while fostering a sense of community. Amenity space was provided in two forms:Two internal courtyards which provide communal landscaped areas, forming a quiet ‘oasis’ where the residents can socialise. Two landscaped terraces which provide sun decks, gardens, benches and playspaces. Planted ‘living roofs’ have also been designed to provide bio-diversity to the scheme.

Planning History

The site had previously been occupied by a manufacturer of optical instruments and subsequently by local authority offices. Sheppard Robson worked closely with the Camden Design Officers to agree all aspects of the design to retain as much of the original character of the area as possible. Full planning permission was granted in July 2014 for the construction of the 164 dwellings, including 50% affordable housing. The scheme completed in November 2017.
